Diet and Dilated Cardiomyopathy – State of the Science

Live and On-Demand Webinar

  • Live event: Wednesday, August 14th, 7:00 pm (CST)Registration includes 30 days access to on-demand recording.

  • Description: Last year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released an alert regarding reports of increased incidence of a heart disease in dogs called dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). The FDA and researchers speculated that the increased incidence was related to the consumption of foods that were negatively affecting dogs’ taurine status, leading to taurine-deficiency DCM. Several pet food ingredients were implicated and studies were initiated to learn more. Recently, in late June of 2019, the FDA published an update. The new report provides additional information about the number and breeds of affected dogs, the foods and ingredients that may be implicated, and recommendations for veterinarians and pet owners. In this timely webinar, we will examine what we currently understand about taurine and health in dogs and the practical application of this knowledge to food selection for dogs. Join us for an informative presentation, followed by the opportunity to ask questions and discuss this important issue.
